How a Minesweeper duel works

  1. 1One minefield for both

A fresh no-guess board is made for your match. You and your friend get exactly the same mines and the same opening area.

  2. 23-2-1, go

The race starts the moment your friend opens the link: a shared countdown, and the board appears for both of you at once.

  3. 3Race the bar

Their bar shows how much of the field they have cleared. Yours shows the same to them.

  4. 4Mines cost time

Every mine you open adds ten seconds to your time, and the third one loses the race. Hints are off.

Who wins?

Both finish

The lowest time wins: from the shared start to your last safe square, plus ten seconds for each mine hit. Times are measured on our server.

Someone hits a third mine

They are out, and the other player wins.

Someone leaves, drops out for 15 seconds, or makes no move for a minute

The other player wins straight away.

Want another go?

Either of you can offer a rematch: one tap, a new minefield, a new 3-2-1.

How to beat your friend at Minesweeper

Never guess

Every board can be cleared by logic. A guess that goes wrong costs ten seconds, far more than a moment of thought.

Open, don’t flag

Flags are only for you. In a race, tapping a satisfied number to open around it is the fastest way through.

Know the patterns

1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 along a wall settle squares instantly. Spotting them wins races.

Use the keys

On a computer, right-click flags and a click on a number opens around it. No mode switching.

Why Minesweeper is made for 1v1

Minesweeper has always been a race against the clock. Head to head it gets better: both players get the same no-guess minefield and the same opening, so the winner is simply whoever reads the numbers faster and keeps their nerve.

Every Minesweeper 1v1 gets its own fresh board, checked by a solver so it can be cleared by logic alone. Every square you open is played back on our server, which counts the mines hit itself, and the time is measured there from the shared start, so a win is a real win.

Races are live. Send the link, keep the page open, and the moment your friend opens it you both get the same 3-2-1. If someone leaves mid-race or stops playing, the other player wins, and either of you can call a rematch in one tap. It is free, it runs in any browser, and nobody needs an account: just a name.

Prefer to play alone? Today’s daily Minesweeper is the same for everyone, with its own leaderboard and streak.

Minesweeper 1v1 questions

Can I play Minesweeper against a friend online?

Yes. Tap “Challenge a friend”, send the link by WhatsApp, text or any app, and your friend gets the exact same minefield. Keep the page open: the race starts the moment they open it.

How is the winner decided in Minesweeper 1v1?

The lowest time wins. Your time runs from the shared start to your last safe square, and every mine hit adds ten seconds. A third mine is a loss.

Is the 1v1 board fair?

Yes. Both players get the same mines and the same opening, and every board is solvable without guessing, so luck never decides a race.

Does a 1v1 match use the daily Minesweeper?

No. Matches use their own fresh minefields, so racing never spoils today’s daily or touches your daily streak.

Is Minesweeper 1v1 free?

Yes, completely free in your browser on phone or computer. No download and no account: your friend just opens the link, picks a name, and plays.
