How a Anagram duel works

  1. 1Five words for both

A fresh set of five scrambled words is made for your match, from short to long. You and your friend get the very same scrambles.

  2. 23-2-1, go

The race starts the moment your friend opens the link: a shared countdown, so you both start at exactly the same time.

  3. 3One answer each

Every scramble spells exactly one word, so there is never an argument about the answer. Their bar shows how many words they have solved.

  4. 4No hints

Hints are off in a race. Shuffle and Clear still work, as often as you like.

Who wins?

Both finish

The first to solve all five wins. Times are measured on our server from the shared start.

Someone leaves, drops out for 15 seconds, or makes no move for 90 seconds

The other player wins straight away.

Want another go?

Either of you can offer a rematch: one tap, five new words, a new 3-2-1.

How to beat your friend at Anagram

Type it

On a computer, typing is far faster than tapping. Letters that aren’t left in the scramble are simply ignored.

Endings first

Spot -ER, -LY, -ION or -ING among the tiles, and the start of the word is all that’s left to find.

Shuffle when stuck

Staring at the same order wastes seconds. A shuffle often shows the word straight away.

The last word counts most

The longest word comes last. Save your focus for it: that is where races are won.

Why Anagram is made for 1v1

Anagram is the oldest word puzzle there is: letters out of order, and a word to find. Head to head it becomes a pure test of how quickly you see a word in a jumble, round after round, with the words getting longer as the race goes on.

Every Anagram 1v1 gets its own fresh set of five words, and both players get the identical scrambles. Each one has exactly one answer, the words are checked on our server, and the time is measured there from the shared start, so a win is a real win.

Races are live. Send the link, keep the page open, and the moment your friend opens it you both get the same 3-2-1. If someone leaves mid-race or stops playing, the other player wins, and either of you can call a rematch in one tap. It is free, it runs in any browser, and nobody needs an account: just a name.

Prefer to play alone? Today’s daily Anagram is the same for everyone, with its own leaderboard and streak.

Anagram 1v1 questions

How is the winner decided in Anagram 1v1?

The first player to unscramble all five words wins. Times are measured on our server from the shared start.
