How a Word Search duel works

  1. 1One grid for both

A fresh themed grid is made for your match. You and your friend get exactly the same letters and the same eight words.

  2. 23-2-1, go

The race starts the moment your friend opens the link: a shared countdown, so you both start searching at exactly the same time.

  3. 3Eight words

Drag across a word or tap its first and last letter. Your friend’s bar fills a little with every word they find.

  4. 4No hints

Hints are off in a race, so nobody gets a glowing first letter.

Who wins?

Both finish

The first to find all eight words wins. Times are measured on our server from the shared start.

Someone leaves, drops out for 15 seconds, or stops playing for 90 seconds

The other player wins straight away.

Want another go?

Either of you can offer a rematch: one tap, a new theme, a new 3-2-1.

How to beat your friend at Word Search

Rare letters first

Words with a Q, Z, X, J or K are the quickest to find. Grab them while your friend is still scanning.

Scan, don’t stare

Sweep the grid row by row looking for one first letter at a time instead of reading every square.

Doubles stand out

Double letters like LL or OO jump out of a jumble. Check the list for words that have them.

Ignore their bar

A glance at their progress costs a second. The word you were about to spot costs more.

Why Word Search is made for 1v1

Word Search is the most relaxed puzzle there is, right up until someone else is looking at the same grid. Suddenly every second spent hunting for the last word counts, and watching your friend’s bar fill up while yours stalls is the best motivation there is.

Every Word Search 1v1 gets its own freshly made grid with a random theme, and both players get the identical letters and words. Every word you find is checked on our server, and the time is measured there from the shared start, so a win is a real win.

Races are live. Send the link, keep the page open, and the moment your friend opens it you both get the same 3-2-1. If someone leaves mid-race or stops playing, the other player wins, and either of you can call a rematch in one tap. It is free, it runs in any browser, and nobody needs an account: just a name.

Prefer to play alone? Today’s daily Word Search is the same for everyone, with its own leaderboard and streak.
