Daily Equate

Each row is one guess, and you get 6. Type a true equation (like the faint one) and press Enter.

How to play Equate

Find the hidden equation

Behind the tiles hides a true equation (6 to 8 tiles, depending on the day). You get 6 guesses to find it. That’s why the board has 6 rows: one row per guess.

What the colours mean

After every guess, each tile changes colour to tell you something about the hidden equation.

Guess 1: 9×8−7=65

Start with any true equation. Here the = is green, so the answer also has two digits after “=”. The 7 and 5 are yellow: they’re in it, somewhere else. Everything grey isn’t in it at all: no 9, 8, 6, × or −.

Guess 2: 15+20=35

Now 1, + and = are in the right spot. 5, 2 and 3 are in it but need to move. No 0. The second 5 is grey: the answer has only one 5.

Guess 3: 12+35=47, solved!

Moving the yellows around: 12+35 makes 47, which also uses the yellow 7. All green, solved in 3 guesses. Fewer guesses means more points.

Every guess must add up

4+4=9 isn’t true, so it’s not accepted. It doesn’t cost a guess; you just fix it. Tip: × and ÷ are done before + and −, and division must come out even.

About Equate

Guess the hidden equation in six tries.

Equate is a word-guessing game where the word is a sum. Somewhere behind the tiles hides a true equation, like 12+35=47 or 9×13=117. You have six tries to find it, and every guess you make must be a true equation too.

After each guess the tiles change colour. Green means the right number or sign in the right spot. Yellow means it is in the equation, but somewhere else. Grey means it isn’t there at all. With a little arithmetic and a little logic, the colours narrow it down fast.

A new Equate arrives every day at midnight in your time zone, the same for everyone. Early in the week it is a short six-tile sum; weekends bring eight tiles with times and divide signs. Practice mode gives you a fresh equation whenever you want one.

How to play

  1. Type a true equation using the keys: numbers, + − × ÷ and one =. The right side of “=” must be just a number.

  2. Press Enter. Green tiles are in the right spot, yellow are in the equation but elsewhere, grey are not in it.

  3. Use what you learn in your next guess. You have six tries.

  4. × and ÷ are worked out before + and −. Division must come out even, and there are no negative numbers or leading zeros.

  5. Tap a tile in your current row to change it without retyping the rest.

Tips & tricks

  • Tip 1

Spend your first guess on many different symbols. Something like 9×8−7=65 tests six digits and two signs at once.

  • Tip 2

Look at the answer side first. If the result has three digits, there is almost certainly a × in the equation.

  • Tip 3

A green “=” tells you exactly how long the answer is. That rules out a lot.

  • Tip 4

Numbers can repeat. If a digit comes up green, it might still appear somewhere else too.

Questions

Is Equate like Wordle?

Yes, the colour clues work the same way. The difference is that you guess an equation instead of a word, and every guess has to be mathematically true.

Is 3+4=7 the same as 4+3=7?

No. The hidden equation has a fixed order, so the tiles are checked spot by spot. If you get yellows on a correct sum, try swapping the numbers around.

What happens if I run out of tries?

The answer is shown, you score no points for the day and your Equate streak starts again. You can still play unlimited practice puzzles.

How are points calculated?

Fewer guesses score far more, and a quick solve adds a little extra. Harder weekend puzzles are worth up to double. Solve the daily on consecutive days to build your streak.
