How a Zip duel works

  1. 1One grid for both

A fresh 7×7 Zip is made for your match. You and your friend get exactly the same numbers and the same walls.

  2. 23-2-1, go

The race starts the moment your friend opens the link: a shared countdown, so you both start drawing at exactly the same time.

  3. 3Every square, numbers in order

Start on 1, pass every number in order and fill every square. Your friend’s bar fills as their path grows.

  4. 4No hints

Hints are off in a race. Undo and backtracking still work, so a wrong turn only costs you the time to fix it.

Who wins?

Both finish

The first complete path wins. Times are measured on our server from the shared start.

Someone leaves, drops out for 15 seconds, or stops moving for 90 seconds

The other player wins straight away.

Want another go?

Either of you can offer a rematch: one tap, a fresh grid, a new 3-2-1.

How to beat your friend at Zip

Corners first

A corner square has only two neighbours, so the path must go in one side and out the other. Lock those in before you race ahead.

Watch for pockets

Before you dash to the next number, check you aren’t sealing off a little group of empty squares you can never reach again.

Draw, don’t tap

Dragging is far faster than tapping square by square. Keep your finger down and sweep through whole rows.

Ignore their bar

Their progress is right next to yours. A glance costs a second; a wrong turn because you looked costs more.

Why Zip is made for 1v1

Zip is a path puzzle with one simple rule: draw a single line that visits every square exactly once, hitting the numbers in order. Head to head it becomes a race of planning against speed. Draw too fast and you trap yourself in a corner; plan too long and your friend’s bar is already at the finish.

Every Zip 1v1 gets its own freshly generated 7×7 grid, with a handful of walls, and both players see the identical puzzle. Each finished path is replayed square by square on our server, and the time is measured there from the shared start, so nobody can fake a win.

Races are live. Send the link, keep the page open, and the moment your friend opens it you both get the same 3-2-1. If someone leaves mid-race or stops playing, the other player wins, and either of you can call a rematch in one tap. It is free, it runs in any browser, and nobody needs an account: just a name.

Zip 1v1 questions

Can I play Zip against a friend online?

Yes. Tap “Challenge a friend”, send the link by WhatsApp, text or any app, and your friend gets the exact same grid. Keep the page open: the race starts the moment they open it.

How is the winner decided in Zip 1v1?

The first player to complete the path wins: every square covered, every number in order. Times are measured on our server from the shared start.

Can I use hints in a race?

No, hints are off in 1v1 so it stays fair. Undo, clear and drawing back along your path all still work.

Does a 1v1 match use the daily Zip?

No. Matches use their own fresh grids, so racing never spoils today’s daily or touches your daily streak.

Is Zip 1v1 free?

Yes, completely free in your browser on phone or computer. No download and no account: your friend just opens the link, picks a name, and plays.
